For years, Ivan thought he would never be able to own a pokémon unless he moved to a different region. Even during his trip to Sandgem Town, he often had to remind himself that he wasn’t dreaming, that all this was very real. Only a few more minutes and he would own his very first pokémon. After he said he was here to pick up his starter pokémon, they asked him to wait. As it turned out, waiting for them to return with his options was the worst part yet. Ivan had taken the coin he always carried with him out of his pocket and was now rolling it between his fingers. This was all taking too long.
Eventually, someone appeared again, carrying a small box with what looked like pokeballs inside. Ivan jumped to his feet and pocketed his coin. His surroundings ceased to exist as he waited for the big reveal. He was wondering which pokémon, he would leave the lab with today.

The professor showed him three very different pokémon he could pick from. The first one was a fighting type that he felt was not the right pokémon for him. It looked too aggressive, like it was already looking for an opponent. Ivan decided to pass on that one and looked at the next one. This one was a round green bird which he recognized as a Natu. They were very unique creatures, especially their evolution who was said to be able to look in both the past and the future. As he was trying to learn more about pokémon, this might be the perfect pokémon. They weren’t very powerful, but special and he wondered if they could actually see both past and future. Ivan decided to give the last pokémon a chance too, but the ghost type didn’t really impress him. “I’ll go for the natu,” he decided with a smile before they handed him the Pokeball containing his very first pokémon.
