All he found was a whole lot of nothing, not at all making coming up here worth it. There was so much he could have done in the meanwhile. “Let’s go down then I guess,” he muttered to himself as he turned on his heels and started walking towards the staircase, but he was stopped by a sudden voice. A woman told him to stop and at first he saw no one when he looked over his shoulder. Then she emerged out of the shadows. “Lost?” he said, confused. It probably was possible to get lost here but- no there was more behind it. She looked scared. The woman explained to him that he had to guide her outside and that he would get something in return, at which he shrugged. “Yeah sure.” It was time for him to leave anyway.
One last time did he look around here, to see if there was maybe something else that he could take with him. An object or something that he could use for his research or an interesting pokémon. Ansley was taking his time in doing so and apparently, he was taking too long. The woman let out an irritated sigh as she said that she did not have all day, her voice sounding more nervous than irritated. “Fine fine, whatever. There is nothing here anyway,” he said, not missing the snort coming from the woman. Ansley decided to ignore it and started walking back from where he came from.
Both of them walked in silence, the woman looking over her shoulder every now and then. “Did something happen?” he decided to ask her, but she only gave him a snarky remark, telling him that it was none of his business. This woman showed him why it was that he disliked people. He was trying to help her, but still, she seemed to think she was better than him. Or something. Not that he really cared if anything had happened to her while she was here. “I get it, one of the scare ghost pokémon scared you and made you shit your pants, nothing to be ashamed of,” Ansley said as he innocently raised his hands, a smirk dancing on his lips. The scared look of the woman turned into anger for a moment when she looked at him, which only amused him further. For a second time today, he was told that it was none of his business.
The woman fell back a little, not wanting to walk beside him, which was fine by him. Ansley kept looking around as they were walking until a loud scream came from behind him. Way too calm did he look over his shoulder. The woman was yelling to get something away from her and that is when he noticed the zubat that flew around her head. “I think it likes you,” he laughed, but he decided to grab Equos pokéball anyway and let him out. “Use confusion on the zubat, and be careful not to hit her. She might kill me if you do,” the last part he added quietly, not wanting the woman to hear him.
His pokémon did as he was told, and as soon as the beam hit the zubat, they had no idea where they were going and quickly disappeared into the shadows again.
The woman had trouble catching her breath again. A few scars were covering her arms where the zubat had managed to hit her, but it was nothing too severe. “Let me help,” he said as he walked closer to her. She jumped back for a moment, still skittish after what had happened. That is when she told him that zubat had been stalking her for a while now, which caused her to disorientate. Ansley only nobbed a few times as she was telling him her story. There was more to it, but he quickly lost interest and stopped listening.
When Equos tried to come closer, she backed away again. “Don’t worry, he can help with those wounds you have. It won’t hurt.” The last part might be a lie. Ansley had no idea if it hurt or not, but he assumed it wouldn’t. The pokémon softly placed his horn against the woman, healing her wounds. In an instant, she was more grateful towards him and thanked both of them. “Don’t thank me yet, we're still not out of this place,” he joked, but they were almost there.
They walked in silence and without any more pokémon causing them trouble. Just to be sure, he let Equos out of his pokéball. Maybe his presence alone was enough to keep unwanted pokémon away. Every now and again he thought he could hear something coming from behind them, but when he looked over his shoulder, there was nothing there.
Eventually, they found the exit, and Ansley was happy when he felt the warm sun on his skin again. All of a sudden it became easier to breathe again too. “Well then, here we are,” he said to the woman with a smile on his face. Maybe he would come back again, to see if he might have missed something.
