Verrassend genoeg had ze de eerste ronde gewonnen. Ze had met haar Quilladin niet bepaald in het voordeel gestaan toen hij poisoned raakte, maar blijkbaar hadden zijn aanvallen daarna genoeg schade aangericht om haar als de winnares te verklaren. Ze had ook gezien dat Shiro zijn gevecht gewonnen had en had hem daarvoor willen feliciteren, maar ze had zich al aan moeten melden voor een nieuwe Pokémon en had er geen tijd meer voor gehad. Ze had nu een andere Pokémon, eentje die wel een veel betere moveset had dan Quilladin: Gilosopod. Ze had zijn moveset gescand en wist dan ook precies met welke aanval ze als eerste wilde beginnen. Ze stond verrassend genoeg tegenover Nestor, de jongen wiens Gligar ze had helpen te evolueren en ze glimlachte naar hem. ”Succes!” zei ze tegen hem en ze stak haar duimen naar hem op. Ze kreeg te horen dat zij het gevecht mocht beginnen en toen ze zag dat Nestor een Dewott op het veld had geroepen, liet zij haar Gilosopod tevoorschijn komen. ”Gilosopod, begin met First Impression!” riep ze. Ze wist dat deze move enkel werkte aan het begin van het gevecht op de eerste beurt en als het raak was, dan kon het ontzettend veel schade aanrichten tegen de Dewott. En dat was precies wat ze nodig had.

Hazel smiled a little as the move she made her Pokémon do was a successful hit. First Impression was known for being a priority move, so it would take a lot of agility of the opponent to make it miss. What she didn’t expect was the move that Nestor came up with. Revenge wasn’t a priority move and that was on purpose; it would double the damage being taken and would hit her Pokémon twice as hard. Hazel couldn’t do anything but watch as her Gilosopod got hit by Revenge. The only thing she might have a bit of advantage with, was the fact that Revenge was a fighting type move and Gilosopod being half water, half bug, would at least be a bit resisting to it. Or so she hoped. Gilosopod fell on the ground, but he got up surprisingly quick for his size and Hazel immediately came up with a new combination. ”Gilosopod, use your Sand Attack, then follow it up by Mud Shot!” If this was successful, not only would the accuracy of the Dewott be lowered, but he would also lose some of its speed. Hazel believed Dewott was actually faster than Gilosopod and she hoped some of that advantage would be taken away by doing the combination she just did. Now it would just have to hit successfully.

Hazel crossed her arms and watched as her Gilosopod used his Sand Attack and his Mud Shot. The Mud Shot was prevented by a Water Gun coming from Dewott, but the sand hit the eyes of the Dewott and Hazel saw that Nestor had no other choice than to let his Dewott use a non attacking move, waiting it out until the sand was gone. But Hazel wasn’t to go let him off that easily. ”Gilosopod, take a swing at him with your Sucker Punch!” she yelled. ”And while you’re close to him, use your Slash as well!” She could’ve used this time to back up her defenses a bit by letting Gilosopod using one of his defense stats rising moves, but she knew it wasn’t a good idea because on the long run she needed to do more damage to Dewott than Dewott did to her. She knew she was at a disadvantage the second the Dewott hit her Gilosopod with his Revenge and she hoped she could make up for the damage Gilosopod already had receiver. She saw how Gilosopod ran at Dewott with more speed than she expected; it was a priority move, but he just didn’t seem that fast. Sucker Punch was a priority move and was therefore hard to evade, but maybe Nestor could figure something out. She hoped the Sucker Punch and the Slash would be able to hit the Dewott. And if she was really lucky, the Slash would be a critical hit. But that would be too much of luck, she just knew it.

Hazel smiled a little as Golisopod’s first attack seemed to be successful. He might’ve taken a lot of damage due to the Revenge that the Dewott used on Nestor’s first turn, but he was sure making up for all that damage. Her smile faltered a little as Nestor ordered his Dewott to use Water Pulse, which Golisopod couldn’t avoid due to the fact that he was too close. Hazel already had another idea in mind when he got hit and she was lucky to not have been hit by the confusion, otherwise that would’ve been another problem she would have to deal with. ”Golisopod, try to get a Mud Shot in to lower its speed!” she yelled at her temporary Pokémon. Without looking back he nodded and mud started to race in the direction of Dewott. ”Now, go at him with another Slash!” she ordered her Golisopod. She could tell it got easier for Dewott to see, but that wouldn’t be the case for long. For as soon as Dewott got rid of the sand in his eyes, Hazel would order Golisopod to use its Sand Attack again. That might not be entirely honorable, but wouldn’t Nestor do the same if the roles were reversed? Yeah, she would think so.
