Sinnoh

After a sleepless night Nestor was on his way to his first gym. This was not the first time he walked this path. Just the day before he had done the same thing, with the same plan in his mind; to challenge and defeat the gym. Obviously that was not what happened. He never even made it inside the gym because he was too nervous and was doubting his own skills. What if he was not good enough? This was only the first gym and people said the first one was always easy. Nestor did not want to be that person that lost to the first gym. He would never be able to become champion if he lost to the first gym.

With newfound courage- no not courage. Today he forced himself to step inside and challenge the gym. Cleo had orders to drag him in if he wanted to turn around.
It did not take long before he was standing right in front of the gym. His heart felt like it might jump out of his chest at any moment. “Okay, let’s do this. We can do this,” he said, trying to encourage himself. Cleo only rolled her eyes, clearly, she was more confident than him. The pokémon pulled at his sleeve and Nestor followed her inside.

Once inside he met the first gym leader. Turns out she was just a child. He knew that this leader was the youngest one, but he didn’t expect her to be this young. “I uhm- am here to challenge the gy- you?” It came out more as a question than a statement. There was no going back now.

The rules were explained to him and he gave a small nod to let them know he understood what was expected of him. Slowly his nerves were pushed aside and he felt a bit more confident now. Nestor was the first to choose a pokémon, but he wasn’t sure who he wanted to use. Both his ghost types were strong against bug types, but she did have that ice type that could be a problem if she used that one.

Nestor grabbed one of the pokéballs and threw it onto the field. Shu came out of the ball and with a wide grin, the Gastly looked at the young girl. Right then and there, he decided that he would only leave this gym when that first badge was in his possession.
